Two Weeks to One Sheet

Here's my previous post about the latest sheet set.

I had hoped to finish both new sheets in two weeks, but only finished one.

Fortunately, it was the fitted sheet, and that made it usable.

OK, it was really two weeks and one day, but who's counting?

Here is proof of completion of the navy fitted sheet for the king-sized bed.  Since the top sheet is not yet finished, and DH doesn't need a sheet in the summer, I brought a piece of fabric to use as my top sheet until the blue one is finished.  Obviously, Marco has rearranged my "sheet."

As you can see, I do such an excellent job of taking my time!

Of all the bloggers out there, I've been aware of this lady the longest.  I have used Wild Ginger's PatternMaster Boutique (PMB) on and off for a very long time, and I joined the current version of the PMB online forum just one day after she did (7/20/05 and 7/21/05).  She's still active in the PMB forum, too!

She recently did a tutorial for pockets that reside between princess seams, and showed her methods using her PMB skills (click here for the tutorial):

Who else can make a work shirt that is so stylish?!

She's the only person I know who lives in a castle, and has an old ballroom for a sewing room.  This is not the most current view but she's still a lucky lady!

Her sewing accomplishments include gowns she wears to the annual Smithsonian balls (with lots of pictures of other well-dressed attendees):

She also makes some pretty cool costumes for her daughter to wear to Otakon (although she has been known to dress up, too):

When I see "There She Sews" in my RSS reader, I get excited to see what she has done.  I hope you will follow her, too!

Sheet Teaser

The fitted sheet is half done.  The angle at the left is the top of the sheet.  The relatively straight seam across the bottom is a corner seam.  The angle to the right is where the sheet snugs under the mattress:

I have yet to serge the raw edges to the right and apply elastic all around -- and, make the top sheet.

There's a message on my phone from the library to tell me that some reserved books have come in.  I'm going to take a short sewing break by finishing the book I'm reading - "Second Chance Pass: by Robyn Carr.

A Tale of Two Desks

I guess it would be hard to believe that the same person has two "desking" styles!

Two Weeks to New Sheets

My husband recently declared that the thin, high-thread-count, store-bought sheets MUST GO!

When they were originally purchased, they were smooth and silky.  We bought several sets at the flea market, but only two sets are still around.

Perhaps you've seen the type:  400 Thread Count!  600 Thread Count!  Of course, no package states clearly that it's Egyptian cotton, but the implication is there.  Shriveling under a hot iron, set to Cotton, is The Big Clue.  Pilling on the fabric after two or three years is Another Big Clue.

So, pilling of bed sheets is getting a little weird, and DH declares They Must Go!

OK, that leaves us with one very nice set of sheets.  Which we made.  Click on the bed picture to see the bed sheet project (pictures in no particular order):

Anyway, I actually have the fabric for the next set of sheets.  This fabric has been laundered three times, ironed, and cut out.  All I have to do now is assemble the new sheet set:

Since I've almost finished clearing off the cutting table, which is a great place to assemble large pieces of fabric, it shouldn't take me too long to make the navy blue sheet set.

"Shouldn't" being the operative word.

And I was all excited to make a summer dress.

I hope that I will be more "into" the sheet project once the table is totally cleared off.  It's been cleared off before!  How odd that I can't find a picture of the cutting table with nothing on it.

OH!

I guess I'd better tell you why there's a deadline to this project.  The bed sheets get laundered every two weeks.  The red sheets were placed on the bed just yesterday.  The crappy, old sheets are being taken to a thrift store early this week, if not today.  Since we always dress the bed with a different set of sheets, we will be out of sheets in two weeks.

What I Wear with the Purple Thrifted Skirt

I have the penultimate excuse for not sewing.  It's called "other people's stuff on my sewing table"

I really like this long purple skirt in a stable knit.  I found it at a thrift store a few years ago.  When it's colder outside, I wear a long-sleeved shirt with it:

When it's warmer out, I wear one of these tops -- sleeveless, tank, or short sleeves.  The sleeveless top was on sale at W*M, the tank top was bought at the flea market, and the short-sleeved top was found at a thrift store:

The tank top is not enough coverage for work, so I wear a slinky knit jacket (purchased several years ago) over it:

I don't wear bracelets or necklaces, but I do have some new earrings that go well with these clothes.  Click on the picture to see how I made the earring hanger:

I'm thinking of getting the pattern called Pamela's Patterns Magic Pencil skirt for future use - specifically the dark purple ottoman knit fabric.  I "think" it's enough to make another narrow skirt, if this one ever wears out!  Click here to see the pattern I'm talking about.

More recently, I found another top at the flea marked that I can wear with this skirt.  It's a printed slinky knit, and the printed "circles" go really well with my "moon and stars" earrings:

Watch out!  I think I'm getting my sewing mojo back!  With a little inspiration, my table is being cleared off.  No patterns were harmed in the interruption of my sewing mojo:
